Australia Lead 2-0 After Two Facile 300+ Runchases, Rohit Tons in Vain

#IND v #AUS
2nd #ODI at #GABBA, #Brisbane
15th Jan 2016

#Australia cruise to another facile win against spineless #India in the second ODI at #GABBA, Brisbane, Australia today.

First, the Indian batsmen faltered late in their batting innings when 330 looked pretty easy, to end up on 308 in their 50 overs. Some good death bowling by Faulkner and Hastings too.

In reply, none of the Australian batsmen were troubled by this lacklustre bowling attack. Finch, Shaun Marsh, Bailey scored fifties while Smith chipped in with 46 and Maxwell 34.

Easy win yet again for Australia, (lead 2-0 in 5 match series) and that should be worrying Dhoni really. His bowlers arent able to defend 300+ scores and not even able to make a match of out it!

Rohit should be the most disappointed man. Both his hundreds have gone in vain. In hindsight, his run-out could have been the turning point in this game. What do you think? (with him around 330 was a big possibility).

What happens next?
We move to #MCG on 17th Jan for the 3rd ODI, and supposedly this is India's chance to come back (do they have a choice?) with pitch that might suit their spinners?

Perhaps bat second? Not sure. I can guarantee .. if India was chasing in these first two games they would have floundered under the relentless Aussie attack. Its not about the quality of bowling (Australia are considerably weaker without their heavyweights), its about the mental fortitude which India is lacking big time.

Lets see what happens. For now, they sit down and lick their wounds.

#LIVE #SCORE
India - 308 for 8, 50 overs
Australia - 309 for 3, 49 overs

CWC 2015 LIVE - Buttler Blitz Ignites Chances Of Win v Ban

#Eng v #Ban, #Adelaide

#JosButtler is blitzing his way towards the target of 276 needed to win this game for England vs Bangladesh. In a precarious position at 163 for 6, #ChrisWoakes joined him and they have taken the fight to the opposition camp.

He is using all his orthodox and unorthodox techniques to bludgeon boundaries and runs all over the Adelaide Oval and sent shock waves in the Bangla team.

Just goes to show, the match ain't over until the last bowl is bowled or wicket taken. Bangladesh seemed to have started their victory celebrations prematurely and are caught off-guard. They need to regroup.

CWC 2015 LIVE - Mahmadullah Pushes Bangladesh To 275 vs England

#Bangladesh v #England
9th Mar 2015

#Mahmadullah's rear guard #ton put Bangladesh in a fighting position against England in their do-or-die encounter at the #AdelaideOval. At the end of their stipulated 50 overs, they scored 275 for 7 to set up a mouth watering run chase under the beautifully lit Adelaide ground.

In the process, he went on to become the first Bangla batsman to score a #CWC century. He was brilliantly supported by #MushfiqurRahim (89). The two came together with the team in a big spot of bother, wobbling at 99 for 4 in the 21st over.

From then on, both of them took charge, steadied the innings before cutting lose. Given their form, the partnership was broken in the only way possible, a #runout. #ChrisWoakes accounting Mahmadullah with a direct hit for 103.

Game ON for England batsmen.
Their openers are IN.
We've already have a review situation where #MooenAli reviewed a OUT decision against him, lbw to #RobelHussain. Replays showed he was NOT OUT and decision was overturned. He was run out shortly after for 19.

CWC 2015 LIVE - Knockout Time For England And Bangladesh

#Eng v #Ban,, #AdelaideOval

#Knockouts have arrived earlier than expected for Bangladesh and England in the league stage.
In the decider game today (for the 4th team to go through to quarter finals from Pool A), both teams need to be on top of their game to make the cut.

England have won the toss and elected to field first.
The English seamers (#JamesAnderson and #StuartBroad) vindicated that decision by bowling great lines upfront. Jimmy Anderson picked up two early wickets as well. He first had #ImrulKeyes edge to third slip and followed up with a beauty to #TamimIqbal, edged to first slip.

At 9 for 2, Bangladesh were wobbling but #SowmyaSarkar and #Mahmadullah have steadied things since. They are now getting a move on with some crisp strokeplay pushing the England bowlers back.

#LIVE #Score
Bangladesh: 78 for 2, 17 overs (Drinks break)
Sarkar - 29*
Mahmadullah - 41*

Game on at the Adelaide Oval.

CWC 2015 LIVE - Afghanistan Set 187 For NZ To Win

#Afghanistan v #NewZealand, #Napier
8th Mar 2015

Afghanistan have given a good account of themselves against mighty New Zealand to score 186 in their stipulated overs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, they were off to a disastrous start losing 6 wickets for 59. #TrentBoult and #DanielVettori the wreckers in chief.  It took a good partnership from #ShamiullahShenwari and #NajibullahZadran to pull them out of the rut. Both scored cautious fifities to give the Afghan total some respectability.

Dan Vettori was the champion was New Zealand claiming 4 wickets for 18 runs in his 10 overs. Boult supported him with 3 wickets.

NZ have started their innings in usual belligerence led by #BrendonMcCullum
He's smashed 42 in 19 balls before being bowled by #Nabi

CWC 2015 LIVE - IRL beat ZIM In Another Minnow Thriller At Hobart

#IRL vs #ZIM, #BelleriveOval, #Hobart

What a scorcher!!

Chasing a massive 332 to win, Zimbabwe took on the Irish bowlers and nearly crossed the line...

The last 10-15 overs see-sawed between the two teams jostling for a win.

In the 49th over, #TawandaMupariwa smacked #KevinOBrien for 4,4,6 off consecutive deliveries to tilt the scales back in Zim's favour and it was a case who blinks first

7 runs in 6 balls needed, 2 tail ender wickets in hand.

However, #AlexCusack held his nerve to bowl a tight last over and capture two Zim wickets to win their Pool B match by 5 runs.

Magnificent batting and bowling performances from both sides.

The minnows have decided to show #ICC their value and any thoughts of downsizing the #CWC in future editions must be scrapped outright. The kind of display these teams have given over the last three weeks is ample testimony to their ability to perform at the big stage!

CWC 2015 LIVE - SA Win Toss - Pak To Bat

#SouthAfrica v #Pakistan, #EdenPark, #Auckland
7th Mar 2015

South Africa have won the toss and inserted Pakistan into bat.
This is the same pitch where the #Aus v #NewZealand classic unfolded last week. The morning swing conditions seems to have influenced that decision.
Also, teams chasing here do better than ones batting first.

This could be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan because they are particularly not good at chasing.
One positive change they've made. #Sarfaraz, the specialist #wicketkeeper, has been brought in place of #Jamshid. He will open the batting innings. Going by his reputation, this could be a positive move.

Game started

CWC 2015 - Tamim, Shakib Ensure Easy Chase Of 319 v Sco

#Bangladesh v #Scotland, #Nelson

Bangladesh brought in all their experience and skill into play chasing down 320 set by a spirited Scotland. It needed all the big guns to fire to scale the big target set by the #Scots.

#TamimIqbal top scored with 95 and laid a solid foundation in the run chase.
#Mahmadullah stroked a fluent 62 and added a valuable century run partnership to set stage for Bangla middle order to steer the chase
#MushfiqurRahim played a real cameo of 60 in 42 balls to up the tempo
#ShakibUlHasan (52*) and #SabbirRahman (42*) steered the ship home for Bangladesh comfortably.

Earlier in the day, #KyleCoetzer produced a remarkable 156 to set up a massive score of 318 against all expectations. He was well supported by #Machan and #Mommsen. Scotland put into bat by Bangladesh backfired on them through Coetzer and company's breathtaking batting display.

As it stands, Bangladesh have 5 points from 4 games and placed 4th in #PoolA just above England whom they face next. That game is a virtual knockout as winner takes it all in the next stage of #CWC15

Scores:
Scotland: 318 for 8, 50 overs
Bangladesh:322 for 4, 48.1 overs

CWC 2015 LIVE - Pak Complete Facile Win v UAE

#Pak v #UAE, #Napier

Pakistan complete a facile win against UAE by 129 runs.
This will be an immense boost for their chances to move to the next round of #CWC15

Their biggest test lies ahead in the next game, when they meet the super hot #SouthAfrica in couple of days time. That will be followed by game against #Ireland, another tough side. Overall, both games very crucial for them. The two wins (against Zim and today against UAE) will have been a good tonic for their confidence to play their last two games.

Having said that, there are lot of chinks in that batting and bowling lineups, highlighted today.
- Shehzad and Haris were unable to step up the gas in the #Powerplay overs leading to a mini setback
- Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi still havent faced enough balls in the middle to gain some much needed form against formidable opponents.
- Opening slot is a huge problem (Jamshid is failing to pull shot too often and Younis Khan isn't a natural opener anyway)
- Lack of quality batsmen in that middle order (although they are good strokemakers) will hurt them as the games get tougher.

Bowling?
 - The bowlers couldn't bundle out UAE (only 8 wickets were taken) cheaply and allowed game to drift. They need to stamp themselves on opposition team lineups.
 - The spinners are not in their own as yet. The SA game could just be that ignition needed to strike it rich. SA's weakness could just be Pak's opportunity with spinners.
 - Too may left arm seamers? Does that make it a predictable attack with less variety? Needs some thought.

Overall, a good win but the tough test lies ahead for them.
For now, they can enjoy the moment.

#LIVE #Score
Pak - 339 for 6
UAE - 210 for 8

CWC 2015 LIVE - UAE Pulls It Back In Powerplay v Pak

#Pak v #UAE, #Napier
4th Mar 2015

UAE have pulled things back in the #Batting #Powerplay by picking up the two set batsmen #Sohail and #Shehzad. To top it up, they conceded only 29 runs in those 5 overs. Double whammy...

Pakistan's plans to smash runs the powerplay have backfired big time.
They had hoped to score atleast 50 in this powerplay so they could thrust the score in the final 15 overs. As it stands, they need to rebuild again...

The idea to take the powerplay in the 31st over was a good one, but not able to convert it into something substantial.

Pak: 185 for 3, 36 overs

CWC 2015 LIVE - Excellent Start For Pak v UAE

#Pakistan v#UAE, #Napier
4th Mar 2015

Paki batting first v UAE.

Pakistan's best start of the tournament thus far!
Very refreshing to see Pak's top order taking responsibility to lay foundation for a big score. More refreshing to see youngsters #HarisSohail and #AhmedShehzad take responsibility.

#LIVE #Score
Pak 109 for 1 in 24.3 overs
Sohail - 48*
Shehzad - 52*

#NasirJamshid's woeful form continues. He was dismissed for a third time trying to pull a non existent shot. Pak need a rethink for that opening slot.

UAE have bowled well though. They are being disciplined enough.

CWC 2015 - NZ Win But Australia Take Bow - What A Fightback

#NZ v #Aus
#LIVE #Cricket #Score
28th Feb 2015

#EdenPark, #Auckland

You DO NOT take Australia lightly. You cannot nail them all the way in both innings of a one day match. They will not lose their belief. They will fight hard until the last ball.

Well, New Zealand just found that out today in the biggest Pool A match here at Eden Park, Auckland.

Earlier in the day, the Kiwis had steamrolled the Aussies in an amazing burst of speed and spin bowling by #TrentBoult and #DanielVettori. Australia bundled out for 151. From 80 for 1, they slipped to 106 for 9 before #BradHaddin and #PatCummins hung around to take the score to something they could bowl at.

Boy, did they bowl well? and how well did #MitchellStarc bowl?
NZ kickstarted their batting with #MartinGuptill smashing 11 runs of the first legitimate ball of their run chase. A boundary off the hip off a no-ball. The proceeding #Freehit was dispateched over long on fence for a towering six. #MitchellJohnson, the hapless bowler.

#BrendonMcCullum continued in the same vein of form he has brought into this #CWC15 with a blistering 50 off 24 balls. His fall led to a mini collapse for the Kiwis triggered by #MitchellStarc.

Suddenly from 78 for 1, they were 79 for 4. Taylor and Elliot out off consecutive Starc deliveries.
#CoreyAnderson survived the hattrick ball but Australia sensed they could push through this Kiwi middle and lower order.

Anderson and #KaneWilliamson ensured there was no further damage and carried the score past 130 without too many hiccups. NZ victory in sight. 22 runs to win.

Just as everyone looked relaxed and yet another big-team game going down a one-sided path, drama began to unfold. This is where the Aussies are so proficient and their tenacity and ability to bounce back from hopeless situations comes to the fore.

A bowling change accounted for Corey. #GlennMaxwell got his man with his dibbly spinners.
131 for 5. Easy victory still in sight with Williamson settling down at the other end.

But, Starc had different ideas.

To begin with, he induced an edge from #LukeRochi
139 for 6

#PatCummins chipped in with the wicket of #Vettori shortly,
145 for 7

Things beginning to get uncomfortable for the Kiwis given their tail didnt have to bat much in this World Cup so far. In walked #AdamMilne to a crowded Australian field. They hustled up to the NZ batsmen knowing pressure was on.

Starc cashed in on that big time uprooting Milne's stumps for a blob.
146 for 8

The very next ball, #TimSouthee got a taste of his own medicine when his wickets were broken by a scorching Starc delivery for nought.
146 for 9

Dear o dear ....

Can New Zealand lose this one now?
Had Australia completed their Houdini escape?

Kane Williamson stranded at the other end watching  #TrentBoult walking in with the weight of the world on his shoulders (he had bowled beautifully for his 5-For to set up this easy run chase and now here he was needing to score 5 runs or atleast block a couple of deliveries from the rampaging Starc)

Starc steamed in for a second time in the game on a #hattrick, but Boult survived pretty comfortably. Huge roar from the crowd. Another ball to survive though.

#MichaelClarke made field changes for the last ball of Starc's over to avoid a boundary. Plan was set to trap Boult through a full ball but he sprayed the ball wide, a wasted delivery and chance to seal a famous win for Aus.

Over changed and so did NZ fortunes.
For starters, the well set Williamson was on strike but 5 runs was still an ask. He needed to farm the strike well. Pat Cummins the bowler. Field set inside out to avoid boundaries and doubles. Kane had a plan and Pat's inexperience at the death showed as he bowled a full length delivery. Williamson freed himself of the wickets, created room and smashed the bowl over the bowler's head straight down the ground for a SIX!

The Eden Park erupted, NZ batsmen ecstatic while Aussies disappointed. Amazing scenes.
NZ won by 1 wicket in hand and 161 balls to spare (just goes to show if Australia had scored another 15-20 runs more, the story could have been different)

Good game ... made extraordinary by Australia and their never-say-die spirit.
Take a bow! This is how you defend low scores. This is how you fight when the chips are down.
You may lose but you walk off head held high. This is the ultimate sports team!

Man of the Match: Trent Boult for his 5-For. If he had scored those 5 runs, am sure he'd have ranked them above the five wickets he took :)

NZ - 4 wins from 4 games - 8 points
Aus - 1 win from 3 games - 3 points

Opens up Pool A beautifully now.
Things hotting up for the QF berths at the #CWC15.
