India Pull One Back Finally, Australia Take ODI Series 4-1

#India v #Australia
5th ODI, #SCG

Finally, India pulled one back against Australia in the current ODI series after being thumped on four occasions. Manish Pandey along with Rohit Sharma steered India's run chase beautifully to see their first win in the last ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Set a massive target of 330, Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan started solidly putting on a century stand. Quick wickets of Dhawan and Virat Kohli meant India were on the backfoot yet again in this series.
Manish stepped on to... the scene and in Rohit's company blossomed India's innings. Just when Rohit looked like getting a 3rd hundred of the series, tragedy struck. He edged one behind on 99!

The woefully out of form, M.S.Dhoni joined Manish and India started to fall behind the required run-rate but Manish's aggression and Dhoni's composure set the game up for a thrilling finish.
In the final over with 13 to win, Dhoni slammed a six over long off but was out the very next ball. However, Manish kept his cool and smashed the winning runs alongside completing his maiden ODI century. He was adjudged Man of the Match.

Earlier in the day, riding on David Warner and @MitchelMarsh tons, Australia piled on the agony for India yet again. Although their bowlers did better by capturing 4 early wickets, the same old story of inexperience surfaced. Debutatnt Jasprit Bumrah impressed with a two wicket haul and excellent death bowling.

We now move to the 3 match ‪#‎T20‬ series starting early next week and India will take a lot of confidence from this win although ODI series has been pocketd by Australia 4-1.

Part 1 - Top 5 Moments of CWC15

Wow... what a world cup! Simply exhilarating ...

For those who thought 50 over cricket was passe, this was a big surprise.
The intensity, battles, drama, emotions, skills and passion shown by teams, individuals defined success of this world cup played in Australia and New Zealand.

To top it all, it was an all host final as well.. what better way to celebrate cricket. Cricket was a big winner in this epoch tournament!

We've tried to pick some moments from this cup that truly defined this #CWC15. These moments have been arranged in random order. Every moment has its significance and X factor that makes it stand out from the rest!

Here are our top five
1. Shane Watson's dropped catch off Wahab Riaz' Spell against Australia, quarterfinal at Adelaide
2. Mitchell Starc wicket of Brendon McCullum, final at MCG
3. Grant Elliott winning six vs South Africa, semifinal at Auckland
4. James Anderson bowled by Rubeel Hossain at SCG
5. Sean Williams caught on the boundary vs Ireland in a tense run chase...

We start with the first one and our favorite.

1. Shane Watson's dropped catch off Wahab Riaz' Spell against Australia, quarterfinal at Adelaide

After winning the toss and batting first at Adelaide, Pakistan were in with the best chance to challenge the mighty Aussies in their quartefinal match. But, some reckless batting (as expected from this mercurial side over the years) and disciplined Australian bowling saw them skittled out for 213. A score way below par.

However, if there is one team you can imaging defending such a score it had to be Pakistan with their pace battery and their ability to do the unthinkable.

The Australians started well but were rocked by dismissal of Finch.
Warner was settling down while Steve Smith came in and started batting as if he was having a net!
Australia in command you'd say...

Misbah brought in Wahab Riaz as first change after 10 overs and boy! what happened after that was a treat to behold. With his pace, bounce and slingy left arm action, he started getting batsmen to hop around.

His perfectly directed bouncer forced Warner to scoop aa catch towards deep point when Rahat Ali took a simple well judged catch to send him packing.

In walked Australian captain, Michael Clarke and he started hopping to Wahab's tunes from ball 1. Sensing the discomfort, Misbah pushed a short mid wicket for him. And voila... Wahab got Clarke to fend off a steeply rising delivery right down his throat!

Australia 59 for 3. Match in the balance. Pakistan fighting back in a manner only they can.
Wahab on fire.

That brought in a struggling Shane Watson to the crease.
Knowing his out-of-form touch and penchant to pull, Wahab started peppering him with bouncers one after the other. Each one a beauty that had Watson hopping, skipping, jumping, ducking, edging balls over slips and everything but getting out. To add to that Wahab got under his skin by "sledging" hm almost every ball he missed or miscuded. That added drama to the already intense struggle in the middle.

Wahab's barrage had really softened Watson, Something was about to give in. And then it happened out of nowhere (again only Pakistan can manage to do this). With Watson at his mercy, Wahab pitched one short inducing Watson into a pull that took the top edge and flew towards long leg. The trap was set and Watto fell to it. The fielder, Rahat Ali, got under it comfortably. At 83 for 3, a wicket would have made the match very interesting with Maxwell and late order to follow.

Rahat steadied himself under the ball, took position and ... and ... and .. oh no! he spilled a dolly!

Absolute gimme catch dropped? unbelievable .... Wahab distraught, Misbah disappointed and Rahat embarrassed big time. It would have been 83 for 4 and wow that could have swing things Pak's way big time. Unfortunately not to be...Watto gets a life and Pak lose their spirit. They look shaken up by that dropped catch (that would eventually go on to take that match away from them). Wahab claps and goes back to his mark and starts sending more bouncers. But, the moment was lost and so was the match a little while later!

Huge moment that .. Pak dropped the world cup then and there.

Wahab continued to bowl with venom after that almost claiming Maxwell too but his catch at third man was dropped by Sohail Khan (tough chance you had to say).

Australia went on to beat Pakistan by 6 wickets and book their place in the semifinal against India at the #SCG

Wahab's spell though was appauded by many including the legendary Shane Warne as one of the best spells ever! Truly a magnificent perfoemance from Wahab in that 6 over burst that almost had Australia on the ropes!!

CWC15 LIVE - Australia Thump India, Meet NZ In Sunday's Final

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

Australia have thumped India in the second semifinal at #SCG clinically.
India looked up for it in their run chase until the 13th over when Dhawan and Rohit were taking the Australian bowlers on... but once Dhawan went, it was a procession of wickets that pushed them back.

After that, it was downhill although #MSDhoni and #AjinkyaRahane strung a small partnership to raise some hopes but it was a big ask and they capitulated under immense pressure.

They didnt seem to have a Plan B, but their Plan A went horribly wrong losing the top 4 batsmen in a freak period after being 76 for no loss in 13 overs to go to 108 for 4 in 22 overs.

For Australia, it was #MitchellStarc yet again doing most of the damage along with #MitchellJohnson and #JamesFaulkner. It was the perfect game for Australia - bat first, pile score and put pressure on the opposition. India were not up for it today and their winless summer against Australia continued. Disappointing end to their campaign

Australia will now play New Zealand in the big Sunday final.

Aussies have almost nailed the Indian coffin, but for MS Dhoni at the crease.
He has played a sedate knock so far, blocking and prodding or is he waiting to explode.

Too much to do you feel but if there is one guy who can dream of doing this, it has to be him Or has he left it for too late!

CWC14 LIVE - Dhawan-Kohli-Rohit Wickets Put Australia On Top

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

From 76 for no loss, India have slumped to 91 for 3.
The Aussies have bounced back tremendously after the Dhawan-Rohit rock solid start.

#ShikharDhawan with the Aussies at his mercy, decided to smash #JoshHazlewood over the offside and found #GlenMaxwell with precision on the extra cover fence! A solid 45 but you would question that shot for sure...

#ViratKohli never looked in. He pushed, prodded and then just went for a non existent pull, top-edging behind the stumps off #MitchellJohnson.

#RohitSharma looked like he had got in and smashed Johnson for a six over mid-wicket but the very next ball.he was castled by Johnson to erupt into jubilant celebrations.

CWC15 LIVE - Aus Score 328, 20 runs many or 20 runs short vs Ind

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

Late burst from the lower order put Australia on a good score of 328 in 50 overs.
#ShaneWatson, #JamesFaulkner and #MitchellJohnson added valuable runs towards the end to push the score to challenging levels. At one stage Australia were pushed back by a flurry of wickets but thats where their late order came to the fore to score those important runs needed to finish well.

So, what does the score look like?
328 for 7

- Australia will feel 20 runs short considering they were motoring along at one stage.

- India will feel 20 runs more considering they had pulled the game brilliantly around the 40th over.

Game on here with India's strong batting lineup.

CWC15 LIVE - Quick Wickets Evens The Match Once Again - Ind v Aus

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

Quick wickets have brought India right back in their semifinal match vs Australia at the SCG.

Looking down the barrel at 197 for 1, with Smith and Finch setting stage for an explosive finish, the Indian bowlers and fielders hung in and have been rewarded handsomely with 4 key wickets.

First, #StevenSmith pulled one off #UmeshYadav to mid wicket. He scored a magnificent 105 but couldnt go all the way.

That brought #GlennMaxwell to the crease to push the innings into an orbit.
He started well smashing a couple of fours and big six over midwicket.

The battle everyone was talking about before the game started was Maxwell vs #RaviAshwin. They faced each other and Ashwin foxed Maxwell to slog sweep down long leg's throat. Huge this!!! could make a difference of 50-75 runs overall.

Finch who was scratchy throughout felt the pressure to push on the accelerator.
He half pulled a Umesh bouncer to short midwicket.

With two new batsmen at the crease #MichaelClarke and #ShaneWatson, India applied pressure and squeezed runs. With pressure rising, Clarke pulled one from #MohitSharma straight to midwicket. Another huge one.

Its all to play for in the last few overs.
Game on!

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

Contrasting half centuries from #StevenSmith and #AaronFinch have put Australia ahead in this contest vs India in the second semifinal of #CWC15.

After a shaky start, they have got in a great groove and setting up a great platform for their pinch hitters to take centrestage in the end stages of their batting innings.

Smith has been fluent, confident and brilliant with his placements, timing and run scoring. Finch has been scratchy, unsure but hung on there. A couple of close shaves have gone his way too.

As we approach the batting powerplay, both teams will take stock and plan their endgames.

CWC15 LIVE - Both Teams Feeling Each Other After First Powerplay - Ind v Aus

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

There are nerves, tension and you can sense both teams are feeling each other in the mandatory powerplay (overs 1 to 10). It was India that started with better sense of purpose bowling with pace, swing and great lines pushing the Aussies back. #UmeshYadav surprised #DavidWarner with a short bouncer that looped to mid-wicket where #ViratKohli taking a simple catch.

#StevenSmith walked in as if he restarted from the summer series vs India. Confidently playing his shots and steadying the innings. #AaronFinch is still not looking settled but has weathered the initial storm.

4 Boundaries by Smith in Yadav's one over has gotten the Aussies going well.
They have picked up the pace now and seem to be upping the run rate.

CWC15 LIVE - Aus Win Toss Bat First vs Ind At SCG

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

In a cracker of a semifinal at the SCG, Australia have won the toss and elected to bat first.
Tosses have been funny in key games of this world cup. Teams that have won the toss, have generally elected to bat but havent gone on to win their games. So, it could just be a good toss to lose for India! Time will tell.

Both teams look all set to go!
Let the game begin...

CWC15 - Ind vs Aus - Semifinal Ready To EXPLODE At SCG

#India vs #Australia
#SCG
26th Mar 2015

If the first semifinal was battle between two nervous teams looking to get into a world cup final, this second one promises to be a bull fight between two seasoned world champs (Australia - 4 times champs while India - 2 times the winners). This is going to be massive!

Australia, playing in home conditions would be confident going into this one especially with their pace battery and strong batting lineup. India, on the other hand, have turned the corner quite remarkably after a tough summer in Australia. They have a sense of invincibility about them now.

No team will give or take an inch in this one. Their battles over the last few years have been fiery to an extent of being "ugly" at times. No love lost between opposing players. Most games these summer have been marred by these aggression between the two teams. That has slightly dampened the high quality cricket these teams have produced over these games.

So, who will win at the halo'd #SCG?

The rampaging Indians who have demolished all oppositions that have come their way till date or the might Aussies with its pace attack? Can spin be the decisive factor? If it is, then India will be the happier side big time and may edge ahead of the Aussies.

Will it be the Trans-Tasman rivalry in the final at the #MCG on Sunday or will NZ need to face the defending champions?

CWC15 - SA Crush SL, Break Hoodoo Of Being KnockOut Chokers

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica
#SCG
18th Mar 2015

In what can be termed as the most commanding and comprehensive performance of #CWC15 considering the stakes of a knockout match, South Africa literally crushed Sri Lanka mercilessly at the Sydney Cricket Ground in front of a large gathering of Sri Lankan supporters who were subdued for most part of the contest .. well if you can call it a contest?

The only right thing that happened for Sri Lanka today was the spin of the coin going in their favour. They promptly elected to bat considering the big match situation, SA's struggles chasing scores against India and Pakistan and belter of a Sydney pitch. Put runs on the board, loads of them and put the opposition under pressure was the overall plan.

And then it went haywire. Partly due to their own "surprise moves" that badly backfired on them and mostly due to an outstanding spell of seam and spin bowling from the Proteas.

#DaleSteyn, criticized for not being upto the mark in this world cup, showed why he is the best in business with very incisive pace bowling that strangled SA batsmen. #KyleAbbott reaped rewards for nagging line and length bowling while #MorneMorkel's bounce troubled all batsmen, mostly the Sri Lankan skipper #AngeloMathews.

When #ImranTahir and #JPDuminy came onto ball, you sensed Lanka would crawl back into the game but all that was negated by Tahir's brilliant opening spell claiming #Thirimanna (the best Lankan batsman on view today) and #Jayawardena (the champion was literally made to look like a rookie unable to read Imran's guile and spin).

Duminy, then joined the act claiming a first ever #hattrick for South Africa at a world cup and the celebrations were amazing. With the back broken, the only superstar of Sri Lankan batting in this cup, #KumarSangakarra could do nothing but go for his shots and lost his wicket too. He scored 45 in 96 balls .. an indicator of how well the Springboks bowled to keep a man (in supreme form) quiet.

Sri Lanka annihilated for 133 in 37 overs.
Game over!

The only hope for Sri Lanka was their other "surprise" of the day. #ThirmanduKaushal, an off spinner (in the Murali mould) to expose SA's frailty against spin. But, the SA batsmen would have nothing of him and they completed a near perfect victory in just 18 overs. #QuintonDeKock, the most persisted with SA batsman, finally came good and scored a much needed 78*.

Bitter farewell for Sanga and Jaya, the two stalwarts of Sri Lankan cricket.
They will hang their boots shortly. All the best to them for their personal lives.

#LIVE #CRICKET #SCORE
Sri Lanka - 133 all out, 37 overs
South Africa - 134 for 1, 18 overs

Man of the Match: Imran Tahir - 4 wickets

South Africa now await winner of the 4th quarterfinal (New Zealand or West Indies) for their semi-final clash.

CWC15 - Confident Start From SA Openers vs Sri Lanka

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica
#SCG
18th Mar 2015

No one expected the first innings to end so soon and the other team would need to bat for some time before the dinner break. Its just happened at the SCG.

Sri Lanka bowled out for 133 in 37 overs meant South Africa need to bat for some time.

The SA openers #QuintonDeKock and #HashimAmla have started confidently.
That will ease some nerves in that SA dressing room.
Time running out for Sri Lanka.

Can #TharinduKaushal deliver a magical spell on his ODi debut?
Huge ask but what a stage to do it if he does?

CWC15 - Duminy Hattrick Sinks Lanka

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica
#SCG
18th Mar 2015

#JPDuminy was the weakest bowler in this SA lineup.
Sri Lanka would have looked to launch into him to propel their score.
Instead he has done the unthinkable .... by claiming a #hattrick with is right handed off spin bowling.

Sri Lanka were pegged back by the relentless pace attack of SA followed by a superb spell from #ImranTahir. But, it was Duminy who provided the spell of a life time to claim his hattrick.

His hattrick scalps
#AngeloMathews - c. DuPlessis at short mid wicket
#Kulasekhara - c. deKock behind the stumps
#Kaushal - lbw

Amazing scenes at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

SA all over Sri Lanka.
Game over ... well almost .. unless the #weather or #SriLanka spinners can repeat the dose back to the SA batsmen.

CWC15 LIVE - Tahir Double Strikes Strangle Sri Lanka

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica
#SCG
18th Mar 2015

Just when Sri Lanka were looking to crawl back into the game, #ImranTahir has struck a key blow. He's forced #Thirimanna to pop a return catch and his celebrations are a joy to watch. he runs a 100 metres dash with his facial antiques. Treat to watch.

#MahelaJaywardena, the new man in, never looked IN.
Tahir had a very close LBW decision turned own against him (after a third umpire review). However, in his next over he push a faster one that Mahela pulled straight to mid wicket duPlessis.

The onus will now ofcourse be on #Sangakarra.
He is joined by skipper #AngeloMathews

CWC15 LIVE - SA Strike First, SL Openers Back In The Hut

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica
#SCG
18th Mar 2015

South Africa have started with purpose and really unleashed their seamers at Sri Lanka.
Steyn, Abbott and Morkel are getting their swing, pace, bounce absolutely right to unsettle the Lnakan batsmen.

They have been rewarded for their disciplined bowling.
#KusalPerera, a surprise opener sent in to whack the bowl around, was trying to hit too hard against an attack very potent and lethal. #KyleAbbott got him to edge one behind for 3.

#Dilshan who was tied down for 10 balls without scoring, had to get himself away. He chose a steaming #DaleStryn to attack. Bad choice. Steyn got him to edge to second slip where DuPlessis took a wonderful catch.

At 4 for 2 in 4 overs, Sri Lankans were really pegged back.

#KumarSangakarra, who's batting like a dream in this #CWC15 and #LahiruThirimanna are at the crease now. Thirimanna has opened up and hit a few boundaries to up that scoring rate.

Its pretty intense out there.
This is certainly the best quarterfinal in terms of a contest and intensity.
Both teams equally matched and its about who seizes the moments?

CWC15 LIVE - SL Win Toss Elect To Bat vs SA

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica

Sri Lankan captain #AngeloMathews has won the toss and elected to bat first.
A very good toss to win in a big game.

Two changes for Sri Lanka
#KusalPerera comes in for #DineshChandimal
#Kaushal comes in for #RanganaHerath (he's their mystery spinner waiting to be unleashed against SA)

South Africa have made two changes as well.
#KyleAbbott replaces #VernonPhilander
#FafDuPlessis comes back in place of  #FarhadBehardien

CWC15 - Will SA Choke Or Prevail vs Sri Lanka - QF1

#SriLanka vs #SouthAfrica
#SCG
18th Mar 2015

As Sri Lanka and South Africa open the quarterfinal stages of this exciting #CWC15, all eyes are set on battles within battles

#Sanga vs #Steyn
#Malinga vs #ABDevilliers and #HashimAmla
#Tahir vs #Mathews

Some superb contests within the main one will add super spice to this match. While Sanga vs Steyn duel is going to take the cake and effectively determine outcome of this match probably, would love to see how Devilliers tackles the Lankan spin battery!

The "C" tag continues to haunt South Africa and this is a big pressure game tomorrow. They have dug a hole for themselves at critical junctures in world cups and luck has deserted them at times too.

1992 - lost to England by the farcial rain rule in semifinals (ironically at SCG i.e venue for tomorrow's game)

1996 - ran into a rampaging Brian Lara and his innings outclassed the Proteas

1999 - in the greatest ODI of all time, they tripped at the last moment when Kluesner and Donald couldnt communicate and complete the winning run vs Australia in a semifinal at Birmingham.

2003 - poor calculation of the D/L numbers meant they allowed Sri Lanka to qualify for the next stage by tying that game at Port Elizabeth. Boucher actually played a defensive shot when all they needed was one run to win that game on D/L system

2007 - ran into a rampaging Aussie side and Matthew Hayden's blistering century blew them away.

2011 - one of the clear favorites, they literally choked against the Kiwis in their quarterfinal.

2015 - Such has been their CWC history. Will tomorrow be different?

Sri Lanka seem to have mastered the art of reaching final rounds of top cricket tournaments so they can handle pressure but have not won anything in the 50 over CWC for some time.

1992 - Minnows of the game but beat South Africa in a stunning game

1996 - World Champs led by inspirational Arjuna Ranatunga

1999 - Blown away in England in league stage

2003 - Semi finalists but lost to Australia in a keen contest

2007 - Finalists, but again ran into a rampaging Australian side and Gilchrist's stunner century blew them away.

2011 - Finalists yet again and best chance to win the cup, but MS Dhoni's inspirational innings and captaincy snatched victory from their grasp.

Going by this history, SL seem to have a better chance in this contest, although on paper, South Africa is much stronger of the two teams man to man.

Tomorrow will tell. Stay tuned....

CWC15 - Four More Years - England Have To Wait For Next World Cup

#England vs #Afghanistan, #SCG
13th Mar 2015

In an inconsequential game in Pool A, England (badly bruised and depressed from their loss to #Bangladesh from a few days ago) took on Afghanistan in #dead #rubber at the #SCG in #CWC15.

To add to their miseries, the game saw a lot of #rain #interruptions and stoppage of play throughout.
Eventually under the #Duckworth-Lewis method, England finally won the game by 9 wickets.

#LIVE #SCORE
Afghanistan - 111 for 7 (36.2 overs)
England - 101 for 1 (18.1 overs - revised under Duckworth Lewis system)

Man of the Match: #ChrisJordan for his wonderful spell of seam bowling.

With 4 points (against Scotland and Afghanistan, the two associates in this group) in 6 games, England were truly outplayed by the other top teams. They were outright poor throughout.

They have "4 more years" (the famous #BarackObama tweet after winning the US elections a second time) to ponder and get back to a world cup tournament better prepared and ready to fight.

CWC 2015 LIVE - Australia Overcome Spirited Sri Lanka

#Aus v #SriLanka, #SCG

In a fantastic run chase spearheaded by a record breaking #KumarSangakarra century and cameos from #Dilshan, #Chandimal and #Mathews kept them in that chase for a long time. But the run pressure was too high and they fell short by 64 runs.

For Australia, it was #MitchelStarc once again to their rescue with a lion hearted bowling performance. He was supported well by #JamesFaulkner with his speed changes to keep things tight.

Overall, a tight game for both teams to learn from before they head into the quarterfinals. Looks like SL will take on South Africa in that quarter final. Australia may face Pak or WI or Ireland (i.e 3rd placed team in Pool B)
