SC vs BCCI Struggle-Lodha panel tells banks to defreeze BCCI accounts

#SupremeCourt vs #BCCI - Power Struggle
#Lodha #Commitee Disappointed by BCCI practices

MUMBAI: The #Justice #Lodha #Committee clarified on Tuesday morning that the Supreme Court "has not frozen the bank accounts of the BCCI nor has it objected to the banking operations/payments relating to routine administration and conduct of cricket matches/tournaments".

The committee was reacting to TOI's exclusive report on Tuesday that said #BCCI was worried about conducting the Indore Test against New Zealand as its bank accounts had been frozen.

The committee said it had clarified to the banks in 'express terms' that it had not asked for the BCCI accounts to be frozen as it did not want cricket and the public to suffer due to the actions of board administrators. Hours after the email was sent to the #President, #Secretary, #Treasurer and the #CEO of the BCCI, it came to light that the #CLT20 surplus cash - distributed by the board to member associations - was transferred on Saturday itself, the day when the adjourned SGM was held at the BCCI headquarters.

The Lodha Committee then wrote to all state associations, saying: "It is further learnt that amounts between Rs 10-20 crore were disbursed to each association as infrastructure subsidy and Rs 28 crore as compe nsation shares from the Champions League T-20 cancellation. The banks confirm that most of these transactions were hurriedly carried out by RTGS between 29th September and 1st October."
We never ordered the banks to freeze BCCI's accounts. After reading about it in the morning, we informed them to defreeze them immediately... Either our e-mail hasn't been read properly, or it's being presented in a wrong manner

The letter adds, "In this light of events, as the actions of the BCCI to transfer these funds is contrary to this committee's directions and subjudice, you are hereby directed not to in any way transfer or disturb those funds that have been transferred as above to your association. If anything is done contrary to this express direction, it will be brought to the knowledge of the Hon'ble Supreme Court for appropriate orders on contempt."

Five state associations confirmed to TOI on Tuesday that they had received the Champions League surplus disbursement, but added that only part of the annual subsidy had been received.

BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke, who convened the SGM, could not be reached for comments. BCCI sources said Shirke had left for London on a business trip and would be accessible only after 11pm IST on Tuesday night. The board has 27 full members, apart from Railways, Universities, Cricket Club of India and the National Cricket Club. The BCCI's share of compensation from the one-time payment ran to the tune of Rs 1,600 crore. "Such decisions were neither routine nor emergent," the Lodha Committee said even as their sources clarified that any expenses related to cricket were perfectly alright.

India Win Second Test Match Against New Zealand To Clinch Series

#IndvNZ #TestSeries 2016
2nd Test Match - Kolkata

India's bowlers propelled the hosts to a comprehensive 178-run win over New Zealand in the second Test Monday, to clinch the series and reclaim the top spot in the world rankings.

Chasing 376 runs for victory, New Zealand were bowled out for 197 in the final session on the fourth day in Kolkata, with India's Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja taking three wickets each.

Shami claimed the final wicket of Trent Boult, sparking celebrations in the Indian team who now take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the first Test in Kanpur.

The victory also sees India jump back to the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings after starting the series just one point behind archrivals Pakistan.

Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took five scalps in the first innings, shared 12 wickets between them on a two-paced track at Eden Gardens that offered the seam bowlers of both sides great help.

But batsman Wriddhiman Saha was awarded man of the match for his unbeaten half-centuries in both innings against New Zealand's seamers.
Spinners also played their part after Ashwin broke New Zealand's opening stand just after lunch, trapping Martin Guptill lbw for 24.

Tom Latham also scored a gritty 74 before falling to Ashwin soon after the tea break. Ashwin got Latham on a well-crafted off-spinner that pitched and spun away from the left-hander, who was caught behind. Latham's 49-run second-wicket partnership with Henry Nicholls had raised the visitors' hopes of batting the day out, but Ashwin's partner Jadeja soon joined forces.

Jadeja claimed the wicket of Nicholls after his angled delivery got the edge of the New Zealander's bat for an easy catch at slips. Shami got some reverse swing towards the end of the day to rattle New Zealand's middle-order with the wickets of Mitchell Santner and BJ Watling.

Earlier India, who resumed the day on 227 for eight in their second innings, were bowled out for 263 with Saha scoring an unbeaten 58. The contributions of Saha, who scored an unbeaten 54 in the first innings, proved vital to India putting up decent totals.

India's pace duo of Shami and Kumar helped bowl out New Zealand for 204 in response to India's 316 in the first innings. New Zealand pacers Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Neil Wagner, who shared 14 wickets between them in the two innings, also enjoyed the seaming conditions.

India secured a 112-run lead in the first innings that proved vital in outplaying the visitors, who lost regular skipper Kane Williamson to a viral infection just before the start of the match.

Rohit Sharma's dominant 82 on Sunday gave India the upper hand in its 250th Test at home. Half-centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara (87) and Ajinkya Rahane (77) in the first innings also ensured India made a solid start.
The final Test will be played in Indore starting on October 8.

Ind v NZ Test Series: India Win Historic 500th Test Match In Style

#IndvNZ #TestSeries 2016
Green Park Staudium, Kanpur
1st Test Match (3 Test Series)

500th Test Match for India.

Indian Cricket Team completed a comprehensive victory over New Zealand Kiwis by 197 runs in the first #TestMatch of the series played at Kanpur.

It was also a historic occasion for India playing their 500th Test Match. Top and lower middle order batting and some vintage #Spin #Bowling did the #Kiwis in.

Excellent contributions with the bat from Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara at the top the innings while brilliant all round performance from Ravindra Jadeja and Ravic...handran Ashwin with the bat late down the order and brilliant spells of bowling gave New Zealand no chance of a comeback.

Kane Williamson, Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner were the star performers for the Kiwis in a losing cause. Virat Kohli didn't fire but will be happy to see his troops performing and winning without him scoring.

The second test match starts from Eden Gardens, Kolkata in a couple of days time.

ISL 2016: Teams Scramble As FC Goa Retain Lucio For ISL Season 3

#ISL2016

Panaji: World Cup and UEFA Champions League winning central defender #Lucimar #Ferreira da Silva aka #Lucio has been retained by #FC #Goa as the marquee player for the third edition of the Indian Super League starting 1st October 2016.

Consistency was the key for head coach #Zico, who decided to retain the spine of the team, which reached the finals of the second edition of the ISL. He has won the treble (Seria A, #UEFA #ChampionsLeague and #CoppaItalia) in 2010 under present Manchester United head coach #Jose #Mourinho after strong performances in the heart of the defence at #InterMilan

He also played for #Bayer #Leverkusen and German giants #Bayern #Munich prior to joining #Inter.
Along with his strong showing for his club, #Lucio was a mainstay in the Brazil national team with 105 appearances at the heart of the defence, scoring four goals in the process and helping Brazil win the 2002 World Cup, having played every minute of the competition.

He joined the ISL in 2015 when he signed for FC Goa to play under Zico. The coach had thrown the captain's armband to Lucio, primarily due to his wealth of experience playing football in Europe and South America.

Alongside Martinique powerhouse Gregory #Arnolin, Lucio was one of the main reasons for FC Goa's superb run to the finals of the ISL in 2015. His aerial prowess and ability to intercept were key attributes in making him one of the fittest marquee players of the second edition of the tournament.
He regularly stopped opposition attacks in their tracks and started attacking moves of his own for his side.

For the third edition of the ISL, Zico decided to keep faith in the 38-year-old player. Lucio will be looking to lead his team to the final once more in 2016 and go all the way this year in his second attempt at the title.

"I am very happy to sign for #FCGoa once again. We had a good tournament last year and I hope to make FC Goa champions this year. Consistency is the key for us and I am sure that we will do well once again this year under Zico's leadership. It is important to train hard and put in 100 per cent effort on the field in order to get maximum results. I hope to make the fans of Goa proud this year," he said.

I Have Topped, Now Its Your Turn€™: Daughter Inspired Devendra For Paralympics Feat

#Paralympics2016
#Rio2016

Rio Paralympian and Javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia has revealed that a "deal" with his six-year-old daughter propelled him to win a record second gold medal in the Paralympics.

Jiya, who would accompany Jhajaria to training in Rajasthan, struck a deal with her father that if she topped in the lower kindergarten exam, he would have to win a gold in Paralympics. Jhajaria, the only Indian to win two gold medals in Paralympics, told PTI from Rio after winning the men's F46 javelin throw shared.

She proudly phoned me to announce that 'I've topped, now it's your turn', something that kept on echoing in my ear when I entered the field at the Olympic Stadium. She would be the happiest person. I will wait for her to wake up and speak to her," he said after breaking his own world record that he set in Athens in 2004.

Devendra, in fact, stayed awake whole night and kept talking to his family and well wishers till 5am in Rio. Thanking every Indian for their constant support he shared,

Ab kya sona, ab hamein kuchh nahin hoga. Hum to Rashtriya Dhwaj ke saath celebration karenge (I won't get sleep anymore. I will celebrate with national tricolour)

Devendra's world record throw of 63.97 metre came in his third attempt as it bettered his own mark of 62.15m that he had produced for his maiden gold at the Athens Paralympics in 2004. Till then, Murlikant Petkar was the only Indian with an individual gold in Paralympics, while shooter Abhinav Bindra won an individual gold in Beijing Olympics four years later. It was a long wait for the the 35-year-old, who did not feature in the previous two Paralympics with the event missing from the Games' schedule.

501393-devendra-jhajharia

Devendra falls under F46 classification, which denotes F for field events and the number 45-47 is for "upper limb(s) deficiency, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement".

Before the #Paralympics, he trained from April-July in Kuortane, Finland, where he became friends with Kenyan thrower Julius Yego, whom he calls one of his biggest motivators. He (Yego) would tell me his story of penury, of how he slept on a broken cot and how he learnt javelin throw by watching YouTube.  It was quite an inspiration. If he can achieve after so much of hardships, why can't I? We would train for about seven hours. He would tell me I would surely win a gold in Rio. He went on to win a silver. I will speak to him soon, as he has been a strong force behind my success, Devendra said.

Jhajharia further said his mother Jivani Devi and wife Manju, a former national level kabaddi player, played a big role in his success. Since my childhood days, my mother kept me focussed and told me you concentrate on your sport. The rest 'we will look after'. She would not even phone me thinking that I would get disturbed all these days. She has so far kept on fulfilling my need but never took anything in return. My wife, on the other hand, left kabaddi so that she can take care of the family as I mostly stayed away. My father ensured that I get the farm-fresh lentils and wheat even when I'm away.
