I Have Topped, Now Its Your Turn€™: Daughter Inspired Devendra For Paralympics Feat

#Paralympics2016
#Rio2016

Rio Paralympian and Javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia has revealed that a "deal" with his six-year-old daughter propelled him to win a record second gold medal in the Paralympics.

Jiya, who would accompany Jhajaria to training in Rajasthan, struck a deal with her father that if she topped in the lower kindergarten exam, he would have to win a gold in Paralympics. Jhajaria, the only Indian to win two gold medals in Paralympics, told PTI from Rio after winning the men's F46 javelin throw shared.

She proudly phoned me to announce that 'I've topped, now it's your turn', something that kept on echoing in my ear when I entered the field at the Olympic Stadium. She would be the happiest person. I will wait for her to wake up and speak to her," he said after breaking his own world record that he set in Athens in 2004.

Devendra, in fact, stayed awake whole night and kept talking to his family and well wishers till 5am in Rio. Thanking every Indian for their constant support he shared,

Ab kya sona, ab hamein kuchh nahin hoga. Hum to Rashtriya Dhwaj ke saath celebration karenge (I won't get sleep anymore. I will celebrate with national tricolour)

Devendra's world record throw of 63.97 metre came in his third attempt as it bettered his own mark of 62.15m that he had produced for his maiden gold at the Athens Paralympics in 2004. Till then, Murlikant Petkar was the only Indian with an individual gold in Paralympics, while shooter Abhinav Bindra won an individual gold in Beijing Olympics four years later. It was a long wait for the the 35-year-old, who did not feature in the previous two Paralympics with the event missing from the Games' schedule.

Devendra falls under F46 classification, which denotes F for field events and the number 45-47 is for "upper limb(s) deficiency, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement".

Before the #Paralympics, he trained from April-July in Kuortane, Finland, where he became friends with Kenyan thrower Julius Yego, whom he calls one of his biggest motivators. He (Yego) would tell me his story of penury, of how he slept on a broken cot and how he learnt javelin throw by watching YouTube.  It was quite an inspiration. If he can achieve after so much of hardships, why can't I? We would train for about seven hours. He would tell me I would surely win a gold in Rio. He went on to win a silver. I will speak to him soon, as he has been a strong force behind my success, Devendra said.

Jhajharia further said his mother Jivani Devi and wife Manju, a former national level kabaddi player, played a big role in his success. Since my childhood days, my mother kept me focussed and told me you concentrate on your sport. The rest 'we will look after'. She would not even phone me thinking that I would get disturbed all these days. She has so far kept on fulfilling my need but never took anything in return. My wife, on the other hand, left kabaddi so that she can take care of the family as I mostly stayed away. My father ensured that I get the farm-fresh lentils and wheat even when I'm away.

#Devendra #Jhajaria made history in Rio when he hurled the #javelin a whopping 63.97 mts to claim the #Gold #Medal. Doubling that sweetness was a #WorldRecord feat ... Magificent Devendra doing India proud (with an impressive medal tally of 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze after 6 days of competition). Devendra broke his own world record of 62.15 mts set in #Athens2004

Devendra's story is right out of a #Bollywood potboiler.
Born to low earning family in Rajasthan, he met with a bizarre accident at the age of eight.
He was climbing a tree and accidentally came in contact with a high voltage electric line that rendered his left hand incapacitated.

However his love of sports and spurred on by his coach, he began training and playing track and field at top levels around the region and beyond. Soon, his talent and achievements became talk of the town, city, state and nation.

He was conferred the #Arjuna #Award in 2005 after the Athens' Gold and #Padmashri Award in 2012.

She's simply been presented together with her gold medal and is now standing for the British countrywide anthem. CWC15 Sanga World Record Of Back To Back Tons In One Dayers

#KumarSangakarra - you champion!

He has been the story of the #CWC15 so far.
From announcing his retirement from international cricket around Aug 15 to producing one of the most amazing and consistent display of batting acumen, Sanga has done it all at this World Cup tournament.

After starting poorly against New Zealand and missing out on big opportunity against Afghanistan, he has just piled it on...

Starting with Bangladesh, followed by  England, Australia and Scotland he's scored a century in every game. The situations were different, conditions different, bowling attacks were varied but oe thing remained constant .... A #Sanga #ton!

While tons against Bangladesh and Scotland can be termed as easy ones, the one against England came when they were chasing 309 to win. He walked in at a crucial moment in the game and seized it big time to overhaul the total. Against Australia, he took to a completely new level. The Australian attack and aggression were at a much higher level than the others. But he just transcended that competition to the next level with a stunning assault on the famed Aussie quicks. Although Sri Lanka eventually lost the game, they were in it for a long time and will do them a lot of good as the #knockout stage looms....

#World #Record For Consecutive Tons in Onde dayers as well as CWC

v Bangladesh - 105* - Melbourne
v England - 117* - Wellington
v Australia - 104 - Sydney
v Sco - 124 - Hobart

Who's next?

From the draw that might shape up after the league stages, Sri Lanka will most likely meet #SouthAfrica in the quarterfinals. Will Sanga continue his form there with a 5th hundred or the SA quicks have an answer? Stay tuned.....

CWC 2015 LIVE - AB Stuns Windies Again - Magical Innings

#SA v # WI, #LIVE, #SCG
27th Feb 2015

Wow ... Wow ... Wow is all you can say about the "Man" - #ABDevilliers.
Just don't know what he eats for breakfast when he goes out to bat against the West Indians? In a span of month or so, he has broken multiple one day records courtesy the men in red.

His outrageous batting explosion at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the late stages of the match had everyone spellbound and in awe. Take a bow AB, take a bow.

162 from 68 deliveries!!
Unreal or surreal stuff from the best cricket athlete in the world.

He was ably supported by Rilee Rossouw who smashed 62 in 36 deliveries to set the tempo in that innings after losing two quick wickets in the middle.

The West Indies bowlers' had nowhere to hide or were clueless, as AB tore them apart. The best example was the last over bowled by captain #JasonHolder. The over read
2-6-6-4-6-6 (30 runs).

80 runs were scored in the last 3.2 overs.
Astonishing power hitting, ingenuine audacity and sublime batting skills by ABD. Hats off.

South Africa ended with 408 for 5 in 50 overs, highest score batting first in #Australia

West Indies have never chased 300 before. This is 400 ... Can Gayle storm it out once again. He has to match ABD otherwise it game-set-match SA already.

AB's records after this innings
 - fastest ODI 50 (Jo' burg)
 - fastest ODI 100 (Jo 'burg)
 - fastest ODI 150 (Sydney)
** all against West Indies

Whats next? fastest 200 maybe? or how about the first 300 in one dayers?
Teams yet to play against him are already shivering at those thoughts!!

AB's Historic feat - Fastest Century In One Dayers

A long standing record in cricket is broken !!!

#ABDevilliers has done it....
Century in 31 balls ... OMG ... unbelievable batting from the most valuable player in cricket today.

#SouthAfrica vs #WestIndies
Venue: Wanderers, Johannesburg
Date: 18th Jan 2015

Batting first and riding well on #HashimAmla and #RileeRossouw hundreds, South Africa looked to build momentum for a big score through some quick runs from their middle order. #AB decided scoring quick was not good enough. He decided to take the bullet train route.

And boy, did he explode?

Absolute carnage followed.
The hapless #Windies could do nothing but see the bowls flowing over their heads into the crowds in what has been one of the most audacious batting display in cricket history. Scoops, Sweeps, Paddle shots, Flicks, the runs flowed from everywhere... and AB the magician provided them all  .. in just 31 balls..

And that didn't end there.
He carried on and piled up 149 in 49 deliveries (including 16 sixes, a SA record)

Records set
50 runs - 16 balls - World record #ABDevilliers
100 runs - 31 balls - World record #ABDevilliers
16 sixes - South African record #ABDevilliers
Total score 439 - just four short of that magical 443 SA scored against Australia (again at Wanderers in that classic massive scoring game few years ago)

West Indies were so blown away by that onslaught, that their reply ended before it actually started.
Although #DeneshRamdin and #DwayneSmith got half centuries, they lost the game by 148 runs. Had they plucked AB early in his innings, they could have made a game of it. Not to be.

AB take a bow!
